something different

"Mokhtar" has followed Jesus since he was a child. Tunisian children learn about the prophets (including Jesus) and Islamic teaching in school. Mokhtar always knew there was something different about Him. As an adult he received his first Bible and now reads it faithfully. He baptized himself since he didn't know any other believers, and he later rejoiced to meet another Tunisian believer who is teaching him about following Jesus. Pray for Mokhtar as he grows and shares his faith with others.

Father, we pray for 12 new groups of Tunisian inquirers and/or believers to begin coming together this Fall. May these fellowships be transformational as Your Word is opened, prayers are answered, and life is shared.

living water

Today is the final day of the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Pilgrims will drink from the ZamZam well affirming their commitment to Allah. Pray that Tunisians who have gone to Mecca would find their spiritual thirst unquenched. Pray that they would accept Jesus' words, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst." (John 4:13)

the big feast

Today almost every Tunisian family will slaughter a sheep in remembrance of God's provision of a sheep sacrificed instead of Abraham's son. Pray that Tunisians would see that "it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins." (Hebrews 10:4) and that Jesus is the perfect fulfillment of God's provision for Abraham and for our sins.

Haji

This is the time of year when Muslims who are able make their pilgrimage to the city of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. Many believe their sin slate is wiped clean when they make this sacred trip. In Tunisia, those who have gone on this “hajj” are often called “Haji.” Pray today for all the “Hajis” in Tunisia to realize that only Jesus can erase sin forever, as far as the east is from the west, and may this lead many of them to repentance leading to salvation. One year ago today, Tunisia celebrated its first democratic elections. Since then, many have been waiting to see what will happen with the new constitution and government. The constitution was supposed to be finished by today, but that deadline has been postponed until next spring. Pray for God's powerful and merciful hand to guide the events and decision of the next months in this country.

sons of Abraham

Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad” (John 8:56). Tunisians also claim Abraham as their physical and spiritual father. God, we ask that Tunisians would come to see what Abraham saw, that they might be glad in Jesus too.

All nations will come and worship You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed” (Revelation 15:3b-4). We glorify You, O God, that Your plans will prevail—unfailing, unfading!

political strongholds

As many Muslims have strong negative feelings about Israel, America, and the West, spiritual barriers are created that prevent Muslims from seeking or understanding the message of Jesus because they associate Judaism and Christianity with these political nations. Father, we ask You to break the strongholds that prevent people from seeking and finding You in spirit and truth.

"Norma" is a Tunisian who is very upset by the violence committed by radicals in the region last month. She is directing her anger toward all Arabs, but convinced that true Islam would never lead to that. Pray for Norma (and many others like her) to hear about how she can find strength to forgive (and be forgiven) through Jesus, who instead of waging war against his persecutors, said, "Love your enemies." This is a radical statement!

abundant evangelism

Lord, we pray for more relevant, wise, and reproducible ways for Christians to share eternal Gospel truths with Tunisians in the process of doing life together. We pray for honesty, boldness, and creativity in Jesus’ name. May many more hear!

eternal truth

“For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the Gospel’s will save it” (Mark 8:35). Lord, teach me and my Tunisian brothers and sisters this value of Your eternal Kingdom: to lose my life for You is to gain it.

It’s very common for drivers in Tunisia to honk, as a means of voicing frustration to other drivers, communicating that a stop light is green, or to let everyone know that it’s a wedding day. Throughout the country there are exceptionally few stoplights, only roundabouts with yield signs. Father, we pray for Tunisia’s to yield to Jesus. Protect seekers from being stopped in their pursuit of You and let Your Spirit flow.
