cell/house church networks

In a country where mosque buildings have significant spiritual meaning, Lord, we pray for new Christians in Tunisia to have a healthy understanding that a church building has little value in itself. We ask that a corporate spiritual identity and faith-filled fellowship would bind the hearts of Your people together.

Monday 17 December 2012

God’s Word

“Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him” (Proverbs 30:5). Lord, give Tunisians eyes to see the incredible Old Testament prophecies that are fulfilled in Jesus. May they take refuge in him.

Sunday 16 December 2012

Saturday 15 December 2012

nature points to Him

Worship the Lord as you consider these words of praise and the diverse landscape of Tunisia (open skies over the desert, mountains in the east, the vast Mediterranean): “Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; Your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast You save, O Lord” (Psalm 36:5-6).

Friday 14 December 2012

elections and leaders

Father, we want to pray together today for those in positions of political and religious authority outside of Tunisia (i.e. Saudi Arabia, U.S.A., Libya) and the influence that their decisions and actions will have on Tunisia’s future. We ultimately long for You to be worshiped for who You truly are and for Your Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.

Wednesday 12 December 2012

seeking God

“Amy” is a Tunisian of dual ethnicity who is “seeking God.” She has recently become friends with some expatriate Christians and often brings up spiritual conversations with them. Pray for Amy, that she would seek and find the one true God in Jesus Christ, and “never thirst again.” (John 4:14) Pray for her Christian friends to know how to love and encourage her in this time.

Tuesday 11 December 2012

family-based conversion patterns

Father, we look beyond spiritual strongholds and human reason to ask You to draw 25 influential religious leaders in Tunisia to Yourself. Let Your Scriptures and Your Spirit pierce their hearts in the next 5 months. May their whole households be baptized in Jesus’ name.

Saturday 8 December 2012

the glory due His name

“Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly brings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness” (Psalm 29:1-2). Take a moment to join the angels in heaven to treasure and worship the Lord as the perfect Creator and King of the universe.

Monday 3 December 2012

speak to our brothers and sisters

Before God’s throne and in the Spirit, speak these words to your Tunisian brothers and sisters in Christ: “May He grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans! May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!” (Psalm 20:4-5). Amen.

Saturday 1 December 2012

on his way

In the weeks preceding Christmas, many Christians celebrate Advent, a time of remembering and anticipating Jesus’ coming. As this month begins, pray that Jesus would come to Tunisia in ways that he has never come before.

Friday 30 November 2012

Tunisian testimonies

As Paul testified to a crowd in its native language, we pray for Tunisians to hear many testimonies in Derja, Tunisian Arabic. (see Acts 21:40)

Wednesday 28 November 2012

smoking

Most Tunisian men, young and old, smoke cigarettes. Father, as we long for the eternal well-being of the people of Tunisia, we pray today against this addiction that eats away at health and finances. Lord, touch the hearts of Tunisian men to long for Your acceptance more than nicotine. Don’t let them die until they find assurance in Jesus.

Tuesday 27 November 2012

Authority of God’s Word

As Your Spirit moves in old and young, nationals and expatriates, among people of different spiritual experiences and backgrounds, we pray, Father, that the foundation of unity and discernment would be Your holy word, the Bible. Let all come humbly before Your revealed truth to listen and learn.

Monday 26 November 2012

God-man

The angel Gabriel said to the virgin Mary, regarding the child that she would bear, “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David” (Luke 1:32). Father, we ask You today to open Tunisian hearts to embrace the incredible mystery of Jesus as “Son of God” and “Son of David,” the only perfect One to take away our sins.

a beautiful people

Though most have dark hair and eyes with light brown skin, Tunisians can be quite diverse in appearance. There are those with lighter complexion and bright blue eyes, as the country has a Berber presence in addition to the strong Arab majority. Within and beyond these physical appearances, Lord, we pause to praise You for Tunisians, whom You have made in Your image. Help us to see them as You do today.

Friday 23 November 2012

little stores

There are little stores on every street where you can buy almost anything (food, toiletry items, etc), and most Tunisians buy just what they need just when they need it. Father, let church communities pop up throughout the nation that, like these little stores, could give people just what they need just when they need it—but in far more eternal ways.

Wednesday 21 November 2012

mothers and fathers

Almost everyone in Tunisia has a very high regard for their parents, many believing that God will not forgive them if their parents don’t. So it is very important for them to have a good relationship with their parents. Lord God, we ask You, in Jesus’ name, to bring the Gospel of Jesus to many parents who will faithfully use their positions of authority and care to lead future generations to know Your grace.

Tuesday 20 November 2012

rapid reproduction

While seeking to see disciples made and churches planted rapidly, Lord, don’t let the desire for speed prevent depth of intimacy and maturity in You. Apart from You we can do nothing. You are the beginning and the end, O God!

more Pauls

The Apostle Paul explained that before meeting Jesus, “I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers” (Galatians 1:14). Lord, we agree together today that You would transform the lives of many young, zealous Tunisians from being passionate for the traditions of their fathers to being passionate for You, Jesus.

new year

On or around November 15th will be the beginning of the 1434th Muslim lunar year. Though not highly celebrated in Tunisia like January 1st is, this date begins the calendar that is the basis of all religious holidays for Muslims. Let’s agree together today that this “new year” would reveal more spiritual breakthroughs in Tunisia than in the last several decades combined.

remember

“Remember the wondrous works that He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He uttered” (Psalm 105:5). Lord, we remember You. You are the One who created the world with a word, You parted the Red Sea, You fed 5,000 with a few loaves, You have always kept Your promises. Yes, Lord, we remember You.

Wednesday 7 November 2012

november festivals

With the Sahara Festival in Douz and the Oasis Festival in Tozeur this month, Lord, we pray for these southern desert regions to experience the joy of Your Living Water. Jesus, visit these areas this month to make Yourself known and to satisfy souls, I pray.

Tuesday 6 November 2012

rapid reproduction

Father, the only hope of 10.7 million people hearing the Gospel accurately is through rapid multiplication of disciples, churches, and reproducible tools. As Tunisians die everyday without hearing the truth of You, we plead with You to give a healthy sense of urgency to Your children in this nation.

Sunday 4 November 2012

Friday 2 November 2012

students

Now that the school year is well under way, let’s offer up a special prayer for those college freshmen who might be far from family, still settling in and making friends while trying to keep up their grades. Father, we ask for healthy friendships, favor with studies, and opportunities and ears to hear the Good News of Jesus this semester.

Wednesday 31 October 2012

something different

"Mokhtar" has followed Jesus since he was a child. Tunisian children learn about the prophets (including Jesus) and Islamic teaching in school. Mokhtar always knew there was something different about Him. As an adult he received his first Bible and now reads it faithfully. He baptized himself since he didn't know any other believers, and he later rejoiced to meet another Tunisian believer who is teaching him about following Jesus. Pray for Mokhtar as he grows and shares his faith with others.

Tuesday 30 October 2012

house church networks

Father, we pray for 12 new groups of Tunisian inquirers and/or believers to begin coming together this Fall. May these fellowships be transformational as Your Word is opened, prayers are answered, and life is shared.

Sunday 28 October 2012

Saturday 27 October 2012

living water

Today is the final day of the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Pilgrims will drink from the ZamZam well affirming their commitment to Allah. Pray that Tunisians who have gone to Mecca would find their spiritual thirst unquenched. Pray that they would accept Jesus' words, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst." (John 4:13)

Friday 26 October 2012

the big feast

Today almost every Tunisian family will slaughter a sheep in remembrance of God's provision of a sheep sacrificed instead of Abraham's son. Pray that Tunisians would see that "it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins." (Hebrews 10:4) and that Jesus is the perfect fulfillment of God's provision for Abraham and for our sins.

Wednesday 24 October 2012

Haji

This is the time of year when Muslims who are able make their pilgrimage to the city of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia. Many believe their sin slate is wiped clean when they make this sacred trip. In Tunisia, those who have gone on this “hajj” are often called “Haji.” Pray today for all the “Hajis” in Tunisia to realize that only Jesus can erase sin forever, as far as the east is from the west, and may this lead many of them to repentance leading to salvation. Click here to watch a short video related to the hajj.

Tuesday 23 October 2012

One year ago today, Tunisia celebrated its first democratic elections. Since then, many have been waiting to see what will happen with the new constitution and government. The constitution was supposed to be finished by today, but that deadline has been postponed until next spring. Pray for God's powerful and merciful hand to guide the events and decision of the next months in this country.

Monday 22 October 2012

sons of Abraham

Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad” (John 8:56). Tunisians also claim Abraham as their physical and spiritual father. God, we ask that Tunisians would come to see what Abraham saw, that they might be glad in Jesus too.

Sunday 21 October 2012

Saturday 20 October 2012

you will prevail

“Great and amazing are Your deeds, O Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations! Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed” (Revelation 15:3b-4). We glorify You, O God, that Your plans will prevail—unfailing, unfading!

Friday 19 October 2012

political strongholds

As many Muslims have strong negative feelings about Israel, America, and the West, spiritual barriers are created that prevent Muslims from seeking or understanding the message of Jesus because they associate Judaism and Christianity with these political nations. Father, we ask You to break the strongholds that prevent people from seeking and finding You in spirit and truth.

Wednesday 17 October 2012

reactions

"Norma" is a Tunisian who is very upset by the violence committed by radicals in the region last month. She is directing her anger toward all Arabs, but convinced that true Islam would never lead to that. Pray for Norma (and many others like her) to hear about how she can find strength to forgive (and be forgiven) through Jesus, who instead of waging war against his persecutors, said, "Love your enemies." This is a radical statement!

Tuesday 16 October 2012

abundant evangelism

Lord, we pray for more relevant, wise, and reproducible ways for Christians to share eternal Gospel truths with Tunisians in the process of doing life together. We pray for honesty, boldness, and creativity in Jesus’ name. May many more hear!

Monday 15 October 2012

eternal truth

“For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the Gospel’s will save it” (Mark 8:35). Lord, teach me and my Tunisian brothers and sisters this value of Your eternal Kingdom: to lose my life for You is to gain it.

Sunday 14 October 2012

Saturday 13 October 2012

wonderfully made

“I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14a). Heavenly Father, we indeed praise You that Tunisians are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Friday 12 October 2012

honk

It’s very common for drivers in Tunisia to honk, as a means of voicing frustration to other drivers, communicating that a stop light is green, or to let everyone know that it’s a wedding day. Take a moment to reflect upon the Wedding Banquet of the Lamb. As you consider Tunisians honking their car horns today, pray that many of them would be among Jesus’ Bride.

Tuesday 9 October 2012

extraordinary prayer

“And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken,…” (Acts 4:31a). Father, shake prayer meetings in Tunisia!

Sunday 7 October 2012

Friday 5 October 2012

migration

As many young Tunisians continue to seek ways to leave the country and find work elsewhere, Lord, we pray that You would give the kind of favor and success that provides more than material gain for them. Let them hear the Good News of Your love and righteousness in Jesus.

Wednesday 3 October 2012

don’t stop

Throughout the country there are exceptionally few stoplights, only roundabouts with yield signs. Father, we pray for Tunisia’s to yield to Jesus. Protect seekers from being stopped in their pursuit of You and let Your Spirit flow.

Saturday 29 September 2012

praise

“Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to His name, for it is pleasant!” (Psalm 135:3). As you consider specific examples of God’s goodness in your life right now, praise Him and thank Him for how this same grace is at work in the lives of Tunisians.

Friday 28 September 2012

reaction to fear

“Then Jehoshaphat was afraid and set his face to seek the Lord,…” (2 Chronicles 20:3a). When the king of Judah faced the active threat of many enemies, his fear led him to the Lord. Father, as many Tunisian Christians face different fears because of their faith, bless them to seek You. Hear their prayer, O God.

Wednesday 26 September 2012

finding a church

“Aman” visited a public church service this month for the first time. He has researched a lot about Christianity on the Internet, loves Jesus, and desires to be connected to a church. Pray for Aman and those he is in contact with, that he would truly know and follow the way of Jesus in a solid, multiplying group of national believers.

Tuesday 25 September 2012

authority of God’s Word

Lord, even now we are trusting You that You are preparing Tunisian hearts to read Your Word and to receive it as truth from You. Prove the power of the Gospel to transform hearts in a way that transcends human wisdom or eloquence.

Monday 24 September 2012

eternity in their hearts

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Wonderful Creator, don’t let the eternal longings of Tunisian hearts be deceived or distracted by falsehood or temptation.

Friday 21 September 2012

Jesus

Tunisians believe that Jesus was born of the virgin Mary through the Holy Spirit of God. Lord, let this powerful revelation enable them to see that Jesus is indeed like Adam, without an earthly father, but unlike Adam was without sin. Open their hearts to see that Jesus came to give a new beginning, to restore the communion with You that was lost in the Fall (Genesis 3).

Wednesday 19 September 2012

school starts

All grade levels of students in Tunisia began classes this week. Father, as young people of all ages begin their studies this school year, we intercede on their behalf that this would be a significant year of learning that would open their minds and their hearts in ways that extends far beyond the classroom.

Tuesday 18 September 2012

Focus on Sfax (Final Day)

“And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed” (Acts 14:23). On this final day of thousands joining together to pray for Sfax and the surrounding region, let us agree that God would raise up many servant leaders to shepherd and encourage new church groups throughout the south.

Sunday 16 September 2012

Saturday 15 September 2012

Focus on Sfax (Day 6)

“Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’" (Mark 9:24). Lord, nurture a faith in your children in Sfax to believe that You can and will fulfill Your promises. Let this faith stir a boldness to proclaim the truth throughout Tunisia.

Wednesday 12 September 2012

Focus on Sfax (Day 3)

There are a few small Christian fellowships in Sfax—nationals and internationals. Father, we rejoice that there are believers in this region. We ask that Your Holy Spirit would fill them in ways that would ignite worshipful unity and eliminate any spirit of gossip, mistrust, or criticism.

Tuesday 11 September 2012

Focus on Sfax (Day 2)

Sfax is the industrial center of the southern part of Tunisia that, unlike other parts of the country, does not rely heavily upon tourism. Pray that this relatively successive economic region would be a place of spiritual life for the surrounding region, where many courageous men and women would be raised up to openly share of their faith in Christ.

Saturday 8 September 2012

i will extol you

“I will extol You, my God and King, and bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You and praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts” (Psalm 145:1-4).

Friday 7 September 2012

the half was not told me

Jesus, speaking of himself, said, “Something greater than Solomon is here” (Matthew 12:42b). Hear how the Queen of Sheba reacted to Solomon and pray for Tunisians and the rest of the world to see Jesus for who he is: “The report was true that I heard in my own land of your words and of your wisdom, but I did not believe the reports until I came and my own eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity surpass the report that I heard” (1 Kings 10:6-7).

Monday 3 September 2012

God has spoken

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He created the world” (Hebrews 1:1-2). Father, You have always been a faithful communicator. We humbly pray that You would open up the hearts of Tunisians to see Your grace and truth revealed in Jesus.

LORD God, thank You that there are Christian tourists with a growing heart of longing and prayer for Your Kingdom to come to Tunisia. We praise You that You hear their pleas as they walk the beaches, interact with nationals, contribute to the economy, and visit ancient sites throughout the land.

Friday 31 August 2012

tears for Tunisia

Father, touch our hearts that we might have tears for the Tunisian people, longing for them to be reconciled to You with surpassing joy.

Tuesday 28 August 2012

abundant Gospel sowing

"And the high priest said, 'Are these things so?'" (Acts 7:1). Almighty God, we pray that Tunisia's spiritual leaders will begin asking the hard questions they've long ignored.

Monday 27 August 2012

give thought

“Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure” (Proverbs 4:26). Father, bless the Tunisian people to really think about their spiritual journey. We long for their ways to be sure.

Friday 24 August 2012

pray for leaders

As the Lord encourages us to pray for those in positions of authority (1 Timothy 2:1-2), let us pray for wisdom, integrity, and salvation for the president of Tunisia’s Constituent Assembly Mustapha Ben Jaafar.

Tuesday 21 August 2012

churches planting churches

One of the key distinctions of a “church multiplication movement” is that the planting of churches is not reserved for the few, chosen, gifted men and women. Father, we pray for every new fellowship of believers in Tunisia to have a collective, focused passion to see their group multiplied throughout the land.

Monday 20 August 2012

kids’ holiday

The month of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting in the Muslim world, ends with a 2-3 day celebration called “The Small Holiday” in the Tunisian dialect. These days give special attention to children, who receive new clothes and toys, and get special pictures taken. Today, pray for the youth of Tunisia, as you would pray for your own children.

Sunday 19 August 2012
